Your Social Life After Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

If you have had the pleasure of speaking with a fellow practitioner of Brazilian jiu-jitsu then I am sure you have had a list of benefits described to you in detail.

I'm sure they spoke to you about the increase in your ability to defend yourself and your family, the physical benefits of becoming healthier and stronger, and the increase in personal confidence that occurs when you commit yourself to BJJ training.

One of the lesser discussed life transformations that occurs from training Jiu-Jitsu is that your personal life will begin to evolve in a unique direction.

Let's discuss a few of the ways that training BJJ will alter your social life.

- Healthier Lifestyle

It makes a world of difference when you begin to surround yourself with people who are all striving to become better fighters, physically stronger, have more stamina, and to live all around healthier lifestyles.

You cannot help but to begin to adopt some of the philosophies and practices that your teammates employ.

This effect is greatly amplified should you choose to prepare for a Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournament. This forces you to become much more aware of your weight, diet, and other life habits.

As you begin to take your Jiu-Jitsu Journey more seriously you will find that you steer away from unhealthy habits, as you begin to perceive them to be detrimental to your development as a martial artist.

- More Positivity

Modern science has revealed to us that being around positive, upbeat people has a very positive effect on the health of our minds and our bodies.

Finding a solid Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school will contribute just that to your lifestyle. You will discover that many of the practitioners of BJJ are all incredibly friendly and welcoming people that genuinely want to see you grow and develop in this martial art. Even as they work hard to bend your limbs into unnatural angles and choke the life from your body, they still wish to see you develop and grow.

- Less Drama

For the most part, Jiu-Jitsu schools and their practitioners will primarily focus upon the technique, self development, and winning tournaments.

People have little time or energy for drama or gossip.

In my personal experience, the majority of talk about others that I've heard in BJJ schools is talking about how awesome someone's technique is or how quickly they have developed.

In these martial arts schools you will hear people speak so highly of each other, even when they are not around. This kind of behavior is incredibly refreshing.

- Private Grappling Sessions in Place of Parties

Why go to a party to drink when you and a few buddies can gather outside of a class to grapple and train at your leisure?

Diving headfirst into the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will introduce you to a variety of incredible people. Do not be surprised when those incredible people choose to invite you to private gatherings outside of class simply for the sake of training further.

These sessions are fantastic ways to bond with your teammates, train hard with each other, and to get an additional workout in during times when class is just not available.

Over time you will begin to realize that your interest in activities outside of Jiu-Jitsu will begin to diminish.

- Excited for Opportunities to Talk About BJJ

Join the ranks of those who are enthralled by what Jiu-Jitsu has to offer and soon you will find yourself struggling to refrain from talking about it.

Anytime someone brings up a topic that could slightly relate to Combat Sports you might struggle to not launch into a lecture regarding the incredible benefits up Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. And that's okay. It's hard not to be so enthusiastic about such a fascinating martial art.

Did someone bring up the fact they are from Brazil? Here we go. Did your coworker just mention what they saw on UFC? Give them your amateur breakdown. Has a friend brought up how much they enjoy yoga? Tell them that you get to do an involuntary version of it.

In summary, there are a wide range a positive changes that occur in your social life when you adopt training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. This martial art is incredibly welcoming, positive, fascinating, and inspiring so it is no surprise to discover that your life can be enriched when you surround yourself with good people from a good BJJ School.
